After my trip to Japan in March, I have such an appreciation for the culture and community. It was an honor to attend the grand opening event of Japan House at the Hollywood & Highland center in August.

JAPAN HOUSE is a worldwide project with three hubs, Los Angeles, London and Sao Paulo, conceived by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its goal is to nurture a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan in the international community. The cultural center takes up two floors at Hollywood & Highland. The 2nd floor features a gallery space, shop and small café. The 5th floor hosts a Japanese restaurant, library, and salon event venue.

The Aug. 24 Grand Opening Celebration included Japanese dignitaries and cultural enthusiasts, including celebrity guests Josh Groban and actor Masi Oka. Actor, activist and JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles supporter George Takei emceed the celebration. The gala featured a dance performance by Daito Manabe’s Rhizomatiks Research x ELEVENPLAY choreographed by MIKIKO, and a special congratulatory performance by Japanese musician, YOSHIKI. The performances were amazing and such a treat. I’m happy there’s a place in Los Angeles that pays tribute to Japan’s rich cultural heritage.
